OUGD402 - Studio Brief 2 Printed Business Cards

Today I printed my business cards. I wish I had the time to print them professionally but unfortunately I had to print and cut them out myself. I think they've turned out well as I usually am quite clumsy and things don't turn out the same size, but these are fine! They're slightly smaller than a normal business card but I like them. The colours have come out slightly different on screen but I doubt that can be avoided. I think the text size on the back is a bit small but other than that I'm happy with them.

OUGD402 - Studio Brief 1 Age UK

Age UK have released a new ad campaign focusing on social media, to engage more young people. I think this ad is successful because it does make you feel guilty. You often forget yourself when you're on facebook or twitter. Everyone feels better when they get 50 likes on a picture they posted, or have gained some new followers, but this campaign makes you think about the people that social media has left behind:

OUGD402 - Studio Brief 2 Self Branding Final Outcome

For my final outcome I used my developed design. I have used my final logo and some vector patterns.

My grid is based around my logo, the columns can be used as double the width of my logo or the same width. This grid is quite versatile and will be appropriate for presentations as the columns will allow me to bullet point and then leave me more room to organise images.

OUGD402 - Studio Brief 1 Nest

Today an email was sent out from the university magazine - a call for submissions for their next issue.  I thought this would be a good opportunity to start exposing myself, so I decided to give it a shot. The brief was for the design to be created around either the letter T or S. After some thought I decided to go for Type. I also wanted to go for the concept of 3, so I created my design with three colours.

I wanted to create something inspirational and motivational for designers, letting them know its okay to make mistakes and not be a perfectionist, something I've learnt throughout my first year at university.

OUGD402 - Studio Brief 1 Duke Studios

After creating the phone case with Polly, she asked me if I wanted to help her with her business next year when she moves to Leeds as she's starting university here. I agreed, as it would be fun work and I would also be getting paid. She was having trouble finding somewhere to store her stock, so we decided to look for an office or studio space.

When the Hungry Sandwich Club came to give us a brief, they gave a short presentation at the start of the day explaining what they'd been doing since they left university and I remembered them talking about a fun studio space made from cardboard. I decided to contact them and ask them more about it.

After this email, I followed the link and looked into Duke Studios. Their prices seemed very reasonable and suitable for what we want. It would also be really nice to work in a place like this because of how fun and engaging the studio space is. I'm looking forward to the next year and getting set up there, as it could lead onto some really exciting projects.

OUGD402 - Studio Brief 1 Hillary Clinton Logo

As Hillary Clinton announced she was running for president, her new campaign branding was released.

This is her new logo, which to me doesn't seem like anything special. When I first saw it I didn't have any overwhelming feelings or a rush of inspiration. A lot of people says it causes controversy, from a political point of view and also within the design world. They say that the design is quite amateurish, though others argue that the design is simple, straightforward and to the point. I found an article online with some quick re-designs by some designers, and it was interesting what people came up with. Taking the core principals of this logo they created something which worked much better (in my opinion) in a short amount of time:

I really enjoy the clever use of negative space within this final design. It has connotations of progression and moving onwards and upwards, all under the hidden guidance of Hillary.

OUGD402 - Studio Brief 1 Zine

A few months ago we finished our zine and started selling online. We ordered 50 copies and have around 10 left at present.

We're happy with the quality of the printing and are excited about the potential of this project. As we only had 50 copies we didn't think it was necessary to contact any shops to sell the zine, we want to wait until it comes more viable for us. Here is our website:

We're definitely going to continue this after our uni work has finished (we feel this has hindered our progress with the zine as everything was moving quite slowly), so we can focus on the zine and do a great job with it.
